Aerial yoga, or flying yoga, is a relatively new form of yoga that has students holding poses in a hammock in the air. With their bodies off the ground, participants stretch and strengthen their muscles and skeletal systems without the weight of their bodies adding pressure to the movements.

Aerial Yoga Teacher Training Premieres

The two-week course spans 112 contact hours for aerial yoga certification, plus 10 hours of electives and outside assignments, 10 hours of video teaching and 35 hours of aerial Sadhana. Training days consist of a mixture of lecture, teacher training practice, aerial yoga classes, demonstrations, and discussions.

Fortunately, the staff at circuSoul quickly put my mind, and stomach, at ease. When I arrived for my 8:30 p.m. class June 23, they began by going over the safety rules — don’t walk under the net, steer clear of support poles, listen to your instructors. CircuSoul owner Kerry Tice then led me and the other student in that night’s class through a quick warm-up on a large mat on the ground, which consisted of a few Pilates positions and some stretches to get our bodies ready.
